U.S. Navy Tests New, Sleeker Railguns

The first of two new prototype railguns is now firing bullets, moving the U.S. Navy’s long-held dream of fielding an electromagnetic weapon a step closer to reality.

A 32-megajoule “prototype demonstrator” made by BAE has already been fired six times in a week, officials told reporters during a Feb. 28 teleconference.

Finite Element Modeling of the Arresting Gear and Simulation of the Aircraft Deck Landing Dynamics Finite Element Modeling of the Arresting Gear and Simulation of the Aircraft Deck Landing Dynamics

In the current work a full-scale dynamic model of the deck arresting gear is created. It contains all basic elements of the real prototype and used to analyze the dynamic behavior of the arresting gear and tune it for specific conditions of the arrest.

Keywords: Arresting gear, jet-fighter landing, comparison if FE results and experimental data
Element Type/Problem Type: Solid and cable elements / dynamics, contact interaction
External loads: Jet-fighter with 200 km/h initial velocity
Rating:3.08 (Votes: 12)

CFD analysis of the control valve for hydraulic braking system CFD analysis of the control valve for hydraulic braking system

In the current work a full-scale CFD model of the control valve considering all its geometrical features was developed. As a result of CFD simulation the distributions of velocity and pressure within throttling cavity of the control valve were obtained. The relationships of pressure drop characteristics to the flow rate and valve piston positions were calculated.

Keywords: CFD, control valve, hydrodynamics, pressure drop characteristics
Element Type/Problem Type: Tetrahedral with prism near wall layers
External loads: Fluent flow pressure
