Bombardier Transportation, part of the Bombardier Group headquartered in Canada, is a leading global supplier of high-speed and regional trains. Since the 1990s computer aided engineering (CAE) tools, such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and vehicle dynamics software have been increasingly used, to the point where they substitute to a great extent physical tests carried out. Traditionally, however, the design process has been driven by a team of engineers assessing the results of simulations, before deciding on how to modify the geometry in order to improve the performance.
