CompMechLab in 2008 by Ramboll request carried out telecommunication masts computational structural and buckling analysis under wind loading.
Telecommunication masts are installed in the Russian Federation for different cellular operators, should be designed according to requirements of numerous codes and standards . Particularly, in the presented research the masts were analyzed for the action of wind loading according to СНиП 2.01.07-85.
Analysis was performed for telecommunication masts with height of 42, 90 and 120 m.

Main elements of telecommunication masts are:
- mast bands and braces;
- anti-twisting frame;
- halyards (tension cables);
- supporting frame.

FE model of the telecommunication mast |
Finite element structural analysis of the masts for 2nd and 4th wind regions was carried out.Consequently distributions of axial stresses, values of mast deflections from vertical line, buckling deformed shapes, values of reaction forces in points of frame and cables fastening tobase, natural frequencies and mode shapes were obtained.

Based on the research performed the conclusions were done about strength and stability of the masts; recommendations were formulated about modification of the mast supporting frame in order to decrease weight, and about changing of the halyards tension forces not to allow cable deflection during wind loading.
